as the premier modern Japanese restaurant in atlanta, Umi’s menu offers an experience for the senses with the highest quality ingredients, freshest fish and proteins sourced daily from around the globe - all set to the backdrop of its dark and moody dining room designed by the late atlanta artist, designer and icon todd murphy.

season II coming soon : hidden just one floor above the main dining room, Umi’s welcomes guests to an intimate eight-seat fine dining omakase experience. the multi-course interactive tasting experience is complete with authentic Japanese hospitality, fish flown in weekly from The Tokyo Fish Market.

Umi offers group and private dining with an elevated Japanese menu. as a tribute to the late atlanta contemporary artist todd murphy, guests can book The Murphy Room. the moody room is anchored by murphy's 1993 piece called 'the swimmer' and features a 19-foot black walnut table, alongside 45 brass sculptural pendant lights and dining chairs by tom dixon.

a nationally acclaimed, must-visit restaurant within atlanta’s thriving food scene, Umi presents a modern Japanese menu with meticulous technique, sophisticated flavors and a luxe, buzzing atmosphere in the heart of buckhead. since opening in May 2013, Umi has garnered a reputation for being one of the best sushi and Japanese restaurants in the nation, drawing locals, visitors and celebrities alike. The team is also behind Himitsu, a Japanese craft cocktail lounge located next door to Umi, intended to complement a night out at Umi.

Umi takes pride in sourcing exceptional ingredients directly from japan, ensuring every dish reflects the purity and tradition of its origins. the rosy seabass from tsushima, prized for its tender texture and rich, buttery flavor, embodies the bounty of the surrounding pristine waters. similarly, scallops from miyagi are celebrated for their sweetness and delicate brininess, a result of the region's nutrient-rich pacific coastline. Umi also sources its miyazaki beef from the lush, mountainous region of miyazaki, where the cattle are raised with meticulous care, fed a nutrient-rich diet, and thrive in an environment renowned for its clean air and pure water. every bite is a curated culinary tour of Japan’s culinary excellence.
